Honourable Mentions – Scrubs – My Tormented Mentor

dvd

Previously we honourably mentioned Scrubs when, in season 5, JD (Zach Braff) taught us that “vampires like it windy”. Words to live by, indeed, however it wasn’t the first time that a vampire appeared within the fantasy moments of the young doctor.

My Tormented Mentor was a season 3 (2004) episode, directed by Craig Zisk, in which Dr Cox (John C McGinley) is coming to terms with the death of his best friend, Ben (Brendan Faser). This is not helped by the ‘harpies’, friends of Cox’ partner Jordan (Christa Miller) who are in town – actually there for her as Ben was her brother. JD decides to interfere.

you know, ladies, I’m not usually into the rough stuff, but…He goes to see the harpies and asks them to leave town but, as they turn on him, he flips into fantasy-land and we get a dichotomy of reactions in and out of fantasy. As they sprout fangs and feed, he seems to actually enjoy it, even going as far as saying, “you know, ladies, I’m not usually into the rough stuff, but…”

fangs ahoyHowever, as the fantasy breaks away he screams aloud, “You shalt not feast on me!” It’s not as classic a line as the ‘windy’ line but it is good fun all the same. The scene is just a few seconds long but again we see vampires in Scrubs (and in the twisted fantasy world of JD). A good comedy moment amongst a set of episodes that were quite pathos heavy. The imdb page is here.
