This is a little short that I stumbled across on YouTube and it was one of those films that was probably never supposed to be there but it was unlikely we’d have ever stumbled across this three minute piece otherwise. It hails from Australia, dates to 2008 and was directed by Craig Boreham. It is also very clever.

It features school boys Noah (Will Field) and Gus (Aidan Calabria) who hang out after school and smoke weed. Gus has the munchies but Noah feels the need to tell his friend something. He’s changed, whenever they are together he hungers for Gus and… this is both shot and performed brilliantly, with the unsuspecting audience led to read into the film that Noah is gay and coming out of the closet.

I said unsuspecting but, of course, the shame of me featuring the short on the blog is that the pay off becomes all too obvious. Gus berates his erstwhile friend with a stream of homophobia that fades into the background as Noah changes and the vampiric truth is revealed – just before the strike. A clever little 3 minute piece, that I have totally spoiled but its existence as a vamp flick needs recording.
