Music: Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds

I am a big fan of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and, for those who don’t know, Kid Congo was a Bad Seed for a while as well as being in the Cramps. The title of his latest album – Dracula Boots – gives me opportunity to feature it here.

It is an interesting, eclectic album with a feel that vacillates from sleazy jazz, through world folk to Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports. Whilst none of the actual songs have a vampiric theme there is the track La llarona, which surrounds the mythical Crying Woman. This is a myth I am particularly drawn to and there are versions of it filmed that have a vampiric aspect such as The Curse of the Crying Woman. Very interesting stuff and well worth a listen.
