Created for the 2022 Halloween season on Hulu, the Huluween Dragstravaganza was a short TV special that combined drag sketches and musical numbers themed around horror.
It starts with Ginger Minj in a dressing room as her co-star for a show, Monét X Change, arrives. There is some banter and they spot a creepy looking TV (with no plug). It, of course, comes on and they are – eventually – sucked into the TV.

They are now glammed up, in a horror way, and there is an expectation that they will host the Halloween special… or die. Their opening number, in which they introduce the other Queens and Kings in the show, features horror-costumed dancers and one of these is our vampire (their number also includes a werewolf). Lyrically (and within the sketches) we get the expected silly gags, with some straying into that inevitably seaside postcard low-level smutty humour.

After a fake advert for “Ghoul Talk”, which lists vampires amongst the operators ready to chat, the first sketch/song proper features Jackie Beat home alone on Halloween and her song about loving a vampire – to which we get an appearance by Selene Luna, dressed as Jackie, dancing with said vampire. Expect lots of vampire puns thrown into the formula in this one. And then that’s it… vampire-wise at least.

The show itself was entertaining, if you like a bit of a drag show. It included the expected ingredients, suitably-themed for Halloween. If you went in expecting more than it was, you’d be disappointed and if you expected a story, much more than the 'dragged into TV, host show, and back to reality', then again you’d have been disappointed. With the right expectations it was a fair distraction.
