Horrifying Tales from the Dead – a revisit (sort of)

Director: David Heavener

Release date: 2020*

Contains spoilers

*Date from Amazon page. I have titled this a revisit but it isn’t really. This is an anthology film made up of shorts that were based on the volume of stories called 31 Horrifying Tales of the Dead, one of several books written under the Drac von Stoller Nom de Plume.

There is a vampire short within it, Dracula: the Legend Lives, which I have looked at before as a short.

the opening

In fact, there is another moment of vampire appearance, at the beginning of the film, where a vampire tells us that Drac von Stoller has taken control of our minds and it is hoped we will have nightmares. After this we go into the film proper and there is no linking, they are just anthologised. In truth they are a mixed bag. The Clown Story I have seen done several times now, for instance, and even though this has an additional twist at the end it isn’t too original.

The filming quality varies, as do the performances – with some being let down by the younger actors involved. To be fair Dracula: the Legend Lives was probably the highest quality of the set in performances and filming. I also rather enjoyed the short entitled Zombie Bride for its quirky weirdness.

At the time of writing the anthology does not have an IMDb page.
