From producer Tony Newton, who was also behind
60 Seconds to Die, this was another anthology of micro-shorts. I have mentioned before how much of an art there is to the effective short film and this is even more so with the micro-short. Unfortunately many of the segments in this anthology fell short – with many not capturing the essence of story needed and many more looking simply cheap. Of course, with micro-shorts they are not outstaying their welcome but one wants some quality through the running length.
That said there were shorts within this that managed to master the art of cramming story into such a short format and some that looked well filmed with occasional decent effects. Others looked terribly amateur and had atrocious sfx. In this anthology there was one vampire segment.

Daiane Azura as the vampire |
That segment was entitled Reddish Gloom and was directed by Luc Bernier. What it had was style and some really nice editing with a vampire lady (Daiane Azura) who, through the editing, was either fantasising or remembering an attack on a victim (Gullaume Cloutier). The images see him on the floor, her with wine, washing blood from hands, blood at the mouth and, of course, the attack and fangs. Cycling through black and white and colour photography the composition was polished but the story wasn’t there – it was simply an attack. Nevertheless it was a moment of vampirism in the collection.
