That was fkn hilarious!

But the sad thing is how much money this Meyer woman is making, even though I thought christians werent allowed to write about under-age school kids getting it on with 'demons'!? How times change when you worship both God and Mammon :p

I was at the shops yesterday and one of the gift store's ENTIRE window was filled with Twilight Merchandise. Umbrellas, shoe-laces, lockets, bracelets, shirts, make-up, bookmarks, cups, wallets, purses, posters, action figures and a bunch of other stuff.

It's an epidemic, and unfortunately now a whole generation of girls think that have an abusive stalker vampire boyfriend is cool.

And the vampyric bite and transformation is not sexy at all. Vampire venom? WTF? Edward even injects Bella in the heart first with an adrenaline needle of his venom and all over the body after she gives birth painfully to their dhampir. How fkn romantic is that?

Give me Dracula back thanks....

But, to look on the bright side... some of the twi-hards might find proper vampire genre stuff via it...

First of all--that was GREAT! A thousand thanks!

Second--okay, Twilight is over-hyped and pretty vanilla, but it is far from even the bottom half of vampire novels or films in terms of quality. It is at worst a guilty pleasure and at best a pretty impressive initial creation by a brand-new novelist. Those novels work, if not for everyone (and after all, what novel does?). Let the uber-fans have their fun. Me, I enjoyed them just enough to be able to appreciate their good points (especially characterization) and to talk about the series with others. Hype? Yeah, but that goes with enough popularity. Me, I'd rather look at Twi-merch than Football-merch or Michael Jackson-merch. And since plenty of folks hated Harry Potter but had to put up with all the merch associated with it (a series I loved) then I think for their sake I can put up with all the Twi-stuff.

But again--that video is GREAT!

Zahir - I agree re the novels - especially in respect of the characterisation.

I think, however, the film is poor... it failed to characterise, was poorly acted (by some within) and overly long and ponderous.

I think the problem is that it has lent a(n even) soft(er) edge to the genre - at least iro the first film - and people react against that. However, as I said, it may lead some new fans to the genre proper. Plus it will lead to backlash films/novels where we get the more brutal edge of vampirism protrayed.

The Twi-merch is inevitable, as you have said, but then again so are the spoofs and lampoons. Actually, the guys behind this actually emailed me the details and said that they quite like Twilight.

All that said, yes the fans should have their fun.

That was fun :D

It looks like Twilight vamps are becoming the Ewoks of the Vampire genre
