Dracula – a Broadway Musical

I’ve just ordered tickets for myself and my family to see a performance of Dracula the Musical at the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham St Annes next March. The show is on two days, 5th and 6th March, and is being directed by Andy Vitolo. The same staging will be on at the Lancaster Grand Theatre in September 2010.

The music was written by Frank Wildhorn and his website is here and you can see details of stagings of the musical on the productions page linked from the main page.

I think the "broadway" bit was to add kudos to the production over here, in what will probably amount to an am-dram production - though it has been staged on Broadway I understand.

Hope you enjoy the show. I remember when it opened here in the States. Neither the critics nor the audiences enjoyed it. Much of the blame was placed on Wildhorn and his score. It was so poorly received they didn't even record a cast album.

Here's hoping a talented director on your side of the pond can do something with it. Oh...and apparently there is some nudity in it (at least on Broadway there was) so be warned.

I heard some of the music. Not bad. From what I gather, not a terribly original "take" on the story. Hope you enjoy!
