Honourable Mentions: Futurama – I dated a Robot

Futurama, the sci-fi cartoon from Simpson’s creator Matt Groening, was a great and underrated series and it feels good to be able to mention one of the episodes on this blog. Yes, the vampiric element is small (it is a movie within the episode) but, after all, that’s what honourable mentions are for.

Whilst the gang watch TV a bored Fry (Billy West) laments the fact that he is in the future and not doing all the things he dreamt about. Leela (Katey Sagal) decides it would be fun to take Fry to do all those things.

We see him blow up a planet, visit the edge of the universe and ride a T-Rex. He then mentions that he wants to be romantically involved with a celebrity. No problem, they can just go online and download a celebrity, from nappster.com, into a blank robot.

He is offered Gwyneth Paltrow but turns her down as he has read that she drinks human blood (no, not our vampire connection) and then asks about something in a Lucy Liu (herself). He downloads her and starts dating her.

The gang are not happy, especially Bender (John Di Maggio) who thinks it to be ‘wrong love’, and so Leela, Bender and Zoidberg go to confront nappster.com – discovering that they have kidnapped the heads of the celebrities. They rescue Liu and find that they have an army of Liu bots after them. They hide out in a cinema showing Charlie’s Angels 3 – the Legend of Charlie’s Gold.

Now Fry is obviously a man after my own heart as he is in the cinema and states “This is the best movie I’ve ever seen, it has a vampire and an explosion.” Up on the screen we see the Angels around a coffin, it opens and a suicide bombing vampire explodes.

The only other part of the film we see is when the Angels confront the mayor. “Mr Mayor, if you want to see the real vampire, look in the mirror.” They suggest, to which the dry reply is, “I Can’t, I’m a vampire.”

So there you are – vampires appearing, albeit briefly, in Futurama (the only TV show in which you will hear mention of the public health film "Electrogonorrhea - the Noisy Killer") and thus Futurama appearing, albeit briefly again, on this page.

The imdb page for the episode is here.

Damn man, I just come here to check to see if you can a new post or two and you have an entire page!!! I can't even keep up. I spent two days on one post here lately. I need to sit back and read over your new stuff over a can of coke.

You really work hard at this thing.

I am have a movie from online called The Velvet Vampire. I burned it and some others to disk so I can watch them reposed on the sofa rather than in front of the PC. It looks like a 70's hippie vampire thing, not sure yet. Familiar? I just liked the title and downloaded it.

Bill, my friend, I have no life!!!

Seriously though, this is what keeps me sane (or less insane, I forget which) and words just come to me - I guess I'm lucky that way.

As for Velvet Vampire lookey this-a-way

I second Bill's motion. But then again, I have always said that you are a prolific publisher to say the least.

I'm going to go find an old post and leave a comment - tell you if you were wrong. I'll go find one of my favorites and see what you have to say...

Later buddy

The above post by Smith contained a link to a commercial download site. This was the second in two days and the first was deleted with a note stating that commercial links would not be published without express permission.

Frankly, Smith, I doubt you check where you have put your posts but any future comment by yourself will be deleted without publication, as the spammer you are, as well as a cad; unless, of course, you contact myself (as blog administrator) apologise and any post does not contain a commercial link.
