Short Film: Sang Papier

Just under 8-minutes, this Canadian short film was directed by Kevin T. Landry and despite not being related to its antipodean predecessor, I couldn’t help but be reminded of What We Do in the Shadows in that I could imagine the vampires from that film in this situation.

It is a quiet night in a Canadian airport, we see a shadow moving along the wall and a bored looking customs guard does not look up as the lone traveller (Alexand Fournier) approaches. When he does it is to see a passport with a hand drawn picture, alteration in biro and an owner wearing dark glasses.

the passport

He orders them off and wonders at the red eyes – conjunctivitis – and the skin's pallor – really bad conjunctivitis. The reason for travel is to visit family. He is going to stamp a reject when Grigori, the vampire, uses eye mojo. It almost works but then something goes wrong and he fails. Having stamped the passport he sends the traveller to the next officer and is soon sat in a room when two border guards come in to interview him…

There are some neat touches in this but I shan’t spoil further. Drawn for laughs it is genuinely amusing and doesn’t outsay its welcome.
